Wayne’s Top 10 Things to Do in the Isle of Capri, Italy

1. Enter the Blue Grotto

The enchanting Blue Grotto, a natural sea cave with its eerie blue light, is the Isle of Capri’s most popular, and most famous, tourist attraction. You may have to wait a while to enter, and the time you’ll spend inside the cave will be short, but it’s a unique experience that you’ll remember forever.

2. Take the chairlift to the summit of Mount Solaro

Mount Solaro is the highest point on Capri, with the best views of the island, including the port of Marina Grande and the amazing Faraglioni (rock formations). At the summit, stroll through the gardens and see the statue of Emperor Augustus. Walk back down and enjoy the scenery.

3. Walk the Via Krupp

Start from the Giardini di Augusto and walk down this winding, back and forth, cliff-side road with its hairpin turns. Descend down to a beautiful small bay at the end of the road. But before you start out, take a picture from the top. It’s one of the best photo ops on the island.

4. Visit Anacapri

If you’re looking for a more relaxed, less crowded place on Capri, visit the small town of Anacapri, a 15 minute bus or taxi ride from Capri Town. Shop for more affordable souvenirs and local crafts. Sample some limoncello. Enjoy a leisurely lunch. Wander the streets and take in the local ambience.

5. Take a boat tour around the island

If you’re spending more than one day on Capri, booking a boat tour is a great way to see the island – from another perspective. You’ll get up-close views of the Faraglioni, the Natural Arch, and the many sheer cliffs. Tours can be booked at Marina Grande. Or, rent a boat and do your own touring!

6. People watch at Piazza Umberto

I have to admit, one of my favourite things to do when I’m on vacation is people watch. I just find an outdoor café, buy a beer, and watch the world pass in front of me. If you’re like me, the best place to people watch on Capri is the Piazza Umberto in the centre of Capri Town. Who knows? You might spot Mariah Carey.

7. Stroll the Giardini di Augusto (Augustus Gardens)

Just a short walk from the shops in Capri Town is the magnificent Giardini di Augusto. Stroll through this impressive botanical garden, with its beautiful flowers and ornamental plants. Head up the steps to the lockout for some of the best views of the island. Or just take a load off and relax by the ceramic mural.

8. Shop in Capri Town

Few places in the world can boast as many designer shops in such a relatively small area as Capri Town. Many of Europe’s rich and famous come to Capri to shop and be seen. And if you don’t feel like cleaning out your bank account for the latest fashion, you can just window shop. That’s fun too!

9. Enjoy a Caprese Salad

You can find Caprese Salad (Insalata Caprese) on the menu of many Italian restaurants around the world, but there’s something special about enjoying a famous dish in the very place that created it. Call it authenticity. Or call it bragging rights. You can say, “I had Caprese Salad in Capri!”

10. Take photos – lots of photos!

There’s plenty of things to do in Capri, but what really stands out about this small island is its physical beauty. It’s absolutely gorgeous! And the views from the hilltops are spectacular. So, take lots and lots of photos. Capture those memories for a lifetime.
