Travelling With Wayne combines two of the things I most enjoy doing – writing and travelling.

The writing came first.

Right out of college, I landed a job as a reporter with a small newspaper, then became their News Editor. But with a young family to support, the newspaper business wasn’t really paying the bills. So, I went to work in government, first as a recreation director and later in economic development and tourism. After leaving government, I worked in the private sector as a business consultant and corporate trainer. But even during all those years, I always wrote. I wrote newsletters, I wrote training programs, I wrote articles for business magazines, and I published two business books. I’ve always been a writer at heart. In fact, I just finished writing my first novel!

The travelling came later.

I only began to travel in earnest about a dozen years ago. By that time, my wife Helen and I were empty nesters, the mortgage was paid off, and I had conquered workoholism.  I had travelled a little before that, mostly just in North America, and mostly for business, but there was so much more I wanted to see. So, I did! Helen and I started booking trips, I took advantage of every opportunity to see new places, and soon I was hooked. It’s now one of my favorite things to do. And as a self-employed consultant and writer, I can get time off from work whenever I want. I just have to ask myself!

So, I hope you enjoy my reminiscences, reflections, and recommendations about travelling. I hope they encourage you to travel more, to explore this amazing world of ours, to visit some unforgettable places, to experience new cultures, to enjoy some great food, to meet some wonderful people. We can always find the time and money if we make it a priority.

Life is short – eat the dessert first!

Cheers,

Wayne Forster
